Spanish-American War Veterans' Fund File, ca. 1908-1933.

Spanish-American War Veterans' Fund (established by Congress in 1899 to compensate underpaid Illinois National Gaurd members) payment records were transferred to the state (1908). Files include payment check stubs listing check number; payee name with rank and military unit; payment date and amount; issuance reason (i.e., act of 1899); and occasionally, canceled check notation. National Guard unit accounts include payments made to each soldier and list name and rank; enrollment and muster dates; days served; daily pay rate; payment amount and date; and total company payroll amount.
